Fighting For the Rights of Injured Workers For Over 25 Years

Is your bump on the head worse than you thought?

A workplace injury is not exclusive to construction zones and busy kitchen areas. Office places are also prone to workplace injuries. A spill in the breakroom can lead to a nasty fall, falling objects from the supply closet can be dangerous, and a loose handrail can lead to serious injuries.

It is common to try to immediately bounce back from a fall or an accident that seems small, but are you sure that your bump to the head was no big deal? Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) are notoriously hard to recognize, especially those not medical professionals. When tens of thousands of people die from TBIs each year, spotting these injuries is crucial in treating them, so how can you spot them?

Signs of a TBI

Part of what makes a TBI so challenging to recognize are the symptoms that seem like regular ailments. Innocent symptoms of a TBI can include:

  • Headaches
  • Trouble sleeping or sleeping too much
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness

These signs of a TBI can seem like an illness that is not related to your workplace injury, but they may be the only signs you get for your TBI. More extreme symptoms of a TBI would be:

  • Fainting
  • Mismatching pupil sizes
  • Memory loss around the time of the injury
  • Drastic emotional changes

While some symptoms are more noticeable than others, you should never overlook a symptom of a TBI.

Take your injury seriously

If you suffered any workplace injury to the head, make sure you see a doctor to confirm your health. Serious TBI consequences can take hours or days to develop after an injury, so if you are experiencing any symptoms that may indicate a TBI, do not hope for the best and wait for the issue to go away.
