What are common back injuries?

On Behalf of | Jun 26, 2019 | Uncategorized

If you have ever hurt your back, then you understand how terrible that type of injury is. When your back hurts, it makes it difficult to move and to do anything since your back pretty much connects to every other part of your body. If you move an arm, a leg or your neck, it also moves your back. Suffering a back injury at work in New York is obviously not something you want to do. However, if you do, you should understand your type of back injury.

Cedars-Sinai explains back injuries all result in pain and limited movement. They are also all serious. However, some require more treatment than others. These injuries may include issues with the muscles, bones, tendons, tissues and nerves in your back.

Sprains and strains are very common. These occur when you overextend or tear your muscles and ligaments. They typically heal without much intervention beyond rest and over-the-counter pain medication. However, they can be serious and require more intensive treatment.

A herniated disc is another regularly occurring injury. This can occur due to many reasons. It is not the actual disc being out of place that causes pain. It is when that disc pinches a nerve. The pain you feel is that nerve being irritated. It is usually incredibly painful. However, you may not feel pain when resting. In some cases, though, you may have constant pain.

Lastly, fractures are a concern. These occur in the vertebrae. They can be mild or severe, depending on the type of break. These generally do require some medical intervention.

You may try to self treat your back injury. This may work, but if your issue is not getting better, you feel intense pain, the pain radiates to other parts of your body and nothing you do seems to be making it better, then it is time to see a doctor. This information is for education and is not legal advice.
